When she was in her third year of middle school, Aoki Michie auditioned and won the audition "Star e no Passport" for the TBS show Ginza NOW!. She debuted as a singer soon after with the single "Ureshii Taiken" on the label CBS Sony Records in 1975. Aoki won the bronze prize for that year's Shinjuku Music Festival. She also became a regular on television shows, including the one that landed her in the spotlight first, Ginza NOW!.
