DEATHGAZE was formed in Nagoya in July of 2003 by vocalist Hazuki (ex-Berry), guitarist Kanna (ex-Lapiaqilyze), bassist Ai (ex-KeiL), and drummer Naoki (ex-Berry). The band's name was written as deathgaze then. On April 24th, 2004 Hazuki left deathgaze and went to start his own band, lynch.. In September of 2004, Kanna left the band to play with PuppetMammy and then with Holic. Next month, in October, Sou (ex-Be≒Luna) and Naoto (ex-KeiL) both joined the band. Sou would then leave about two years later, in December. After a hiatus taking up most of 2007 deathgaze's main composer and bassist, Ai, took over vocals and bass.

This new line-up change was met with the capitalization of the band's name and the release of three singles in consecutive months, starting in January of 2008. Kousuke (ex-PLASMA JET), their new bassist joined in March of 2008 with the release of last of those three singles ("I'm broken baby"). With the live at Takadanobaba AREA on April 26th, 2008, Naoto left DEATHGAZE. A support guitarist, new-commer Takaki, took Naoto's place in June of 2009. He became an official member at their live at Osaka RUIDO on December 5th, 2009.
