Hatsune promoting Oto Tsumugi (2011)

Hatsune (初音) is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter signed to avex trax and managed by KEN-ON.

Profile

Information

Born Okumura Hatsune in Osaka, she was given the forename Hatsune, meaning "first note", by her music-loving parents. She began to learn how to play piano in kindergarten. In her fifth year of elementary school, Hatsune entered a vocal contest where she was inspired by a fellow participant to start writing and composing her own music. The following year, she entered the same contest and won a prize. Hatsune has since written over 90 original songs.[1]

Hatsune made her debut under avex trax with the single "Koi, Hanabi" on September 5, 2007 using her real name, Okumura Hatsune (奥村初音). The single peaked at #60 on the Oricon weekly chart. The following singles, "Suna" and "Honto wa ne", were used as drama theme songs, but did not chart any higher. Hatsune released her debut album, Arigatou, in August 2008. She also participated in avex's popular summer festival a-nation and performed her first one-man live in October.

In spring 2009, she graduated from Osaka Prefectural Otemae Senior High School and changed her stage name to simply Hatsune (初音).[2] That summer, Hatsune collaborated with rapper KEN THE 390 for two singles: "Koi ni Deatta Natsu" and "Akai Ito".
