The group was formed in November 1995 after both Uchimura Teruyoshi and Chiaki failed to make it for the unit McKee. The group made their musical debut a couple months later in April 1996 with the single "Rapturous Blue", which was a moderate success as it reached the Oricon Top 20. But their next single, the rock-inspired "YELLOW YELLOW HAPPY", was the group's first main hit and sold over a million copies.
The group's third single, "Red Angel", also sold over a million copies. But soon after, the Pocket Biscuits faced competition with another Japanese pop trio, Black Biscuits, featuring Chinese singer Vivian Hsu.
