SID (シド) is a J-Rock band under Sony's Danger Crue Records. They made their major debut in the end of 2005, which was bolstered by their large fanbase. They are rapidly gaining popularity, as evidenced by the speed with which they sell out all of their releases.

Members

Information

SID was formed in 2003 by Mao and Aki. Shinji and Yuuya were added as members very soon after and the band was picked up by Danger Crue Records, a prolific Visual Kei and J-Rock label. They started as a Visual Kei band, though as of 2006 they have dropped that image.

When 雅-miyavi- had to cancel his appearance at Anime Central in May of 2004, SID was chosen to fill the spot (before they had signed under Danger Crue) and have since gained quite the following in the United States. At the time of their performance, however, they had not yet released a single in Japan. Anime Central was the first place their singles were available.

Their goal for 2006 is to break into the Major scene, beginning with their single Sweet? which was markably less visually oriented as well as much more poppy musically than their previous works, which had tended to maintain a certain blues edge. Since then they have enjoyed a moderate amount of success on the Oricon charts.

Facts about SID

  • Hiroki of Orange Range is a big fan of SID.
  • Mao says they have been aiming to get out of Visual Kei since the beginning.
  • They often appear very eccentric publicly, recording messages while acting drunk or otherwise oddly.
