Shoujo manga is Manga aimed at a female audience, ranging from young girls to young women. Popular shoujo manga include NANA, Hana Yori Dango by Kamio Youko, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e by Hisaya Nakajo, and works by CLAMP, a group of 4 manga-kas who specialise in producing shoujo manga.

Subject matter in shoujo manga varies, but a lot deal with romance of some kind - with a lot of mangakas deciding on the setting of a high school. However, there are 'darker' shoujo manga around, which are aimed at an older audience. These may involve themes of rape, prostitution and incest.
