Tanaka Yoko got her start in the world of show business in 1989 when she won the grand prizes for the audition contests Horipro Talent Scout Caravan and THE Audition. She made her debut as a singer a year later with the release of the single "Haru no Passage" under the label Pony Canyon.

After her singing debut, Tanaka venture into a modelling and TV career. She also had an anime, entitled Idol Tenshi Youkoso Yoko. about her idol career. Before the release of her fourth single "Shiro no Concerto". Tanaka abruptly retired from show business. She felt the expectations of being an idol was too high. This sudden decision cancelled the release of "Shiro no Concerto".
