Information

Hayami Yu was born in the town of Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture. At the age of 3, Hayami's family moved to Guam and then to Hawaii when she was 7. While she was in Hawaii, she scouted by a Sun Music representative at a Mitsukoshi Department Store. She was offered a contract by the company when she return to Japan later on and took lessons and became a talent with them while attending the American School. She would later switch school and graduate from Horikoshi Senior High School in 1985.

Hayami would become an idol singer in 1982 when she released her first single, "Isoide! Hatsukoi". The single would help Hayami to win the Rookie of the Year award at the 24th Annual Japan Record Awards. Later on, she would also make an appearance at the 34th Annual Kouhaku Uta Gassen in 1983, performing the single "Nairo no Nancy". She would gain many hits later on in her career in the 1980s, including "PASSION" (1985) and "Heart wa Modoranai" (1987).

In 1996, she married a banker who she went to the American School with. The couple has two daughters; one born in 2001 and another born in 2003.
