Takakura Ichiro wanted to become a singer after he won the 3rd CAN Karaoke Championships. Afterwards, he attended various karaoke contests, including the 6th Amateur Grand Prix Tournament. At one of the contests, lyricist Araki Toyohisa saw his performance and decided to make Takakura his pupil.
Takakura Ichiro released his first single, "I love you", in 2003 under the indies label Holiday Japan.
