VAMPIRE SAGA is the third major and sixth overall album released by D. This was initially released in two different versions: a CD+DVD edition that comes with the music video for the album's main promotional track "Der König der Dunkelheit" and a CD only edition that comes with the bonus track "Silver acorn bullet". The album was originally to be released in three versions, the third was a 2CD edition that comes with a six track C/W best of. It includes two tracks from each of their singles "Tightrope", "Snow White", and "Akaki Hitsuji ni Yoru Bansankai". Though it had a finalized tracklist and jackt cover design, it was cancelled before release. It was announced through D's website soon after the album's release that type A has been only been delayed, and was released on March 9th, with first pressings coming with one randomly chosen (out of five) jacket-sized stickers.

The album reached #29 on the Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for three weeks.
