The title track was inspired by the French-German film Marianne de ma jeunesse (Marianne of My Youth). "Marie-Anne" is the band's breakthrough single. It initially charted outside the Oricon weekly top ten, but later reached #7. Overall, it charted for 32 weeks and sold approximately 373,000 copies. Later that year, the band performed the song at the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen.
