"Tamashii no Refrain" is the 14th single released by Takahashi Yoko. The title track was used as the theme song to the anime movie Shin Seiki Evangelion: Death & Rebirth, while the B-side, "Kokoro yo Genshi ni Modore", was an image song used in the same movie. "THANATOS -IF I CAN'T BE YOURS-" was used as the ending theme song to the movie The End of Evangelion. Along with "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis", "Tamashii no Refrain" is one of the most influential anisons ever released. The single reached #3 on the Oricon charts, and charted for 21 weeks. The re-release peaked at #39 on the charts and charted for six weeks.
Numerous covers have been made of the song. The most recent has been anison singer HIMEKA, who recorded it on her 2010 cover album. Other notable artists who covered the song include Amuro Namie, Hayashibara Megumi, and Okui Masami.
