Biography
Imai Eriko was the second youngest member in SPEED. She was born in Okinawa and was one of the main vocals in the group. When Eriko began her solo career in 2000, she merged with the dance group Crunch and were named Eriko with Crunch. Their first two maxi singles, Red Beat of My Life and Luv is Magic were released the same year. Eriko's style of music is rockish pop, which suits her voice, but she also sang ballads and slow numbers as well, not forgetting her attempt at rapping in Don't Stop the Music.
She can play some musical instruments. She can play a guitar (her favorite), drums, harmonica, and flute. She learned to play the flute for her role in LxIxVxE (while Hitoe played the saxaphone). She played the guitar numerous times before, for example, she played the guitar for Starting Over during SPEED's TOUR RISE in Tokyo Dome (1999) and also on a japanese music show, Utaban where SPEED did a short acoustic performance of GLAY's song HOWEVER in front of GLAY's members.
The group Eriko with Crunch didn't last long, she went on without them pursuing her solo career now using the title Eriko Imai; she released her third single In the name of Love also in 2000. To date, Eriko as a soloist has released 6 singles, 1 album and a Best album.
She has appeared in theaters, films, radio shows like 'Be@t B@by - Eriko HOTLINK', movies and other parts of the entertainment industry. In the year of 2001, she was awarded the Golden Arrow Awards for Best New Comer in Theater, this award was for her role in the musical Hi no tori. Eriko has also lent her voice as one of the characters in the anime Boku No Songoku in 2003, with her self written single, Butterfly as the main theme song of that movie. She also starred in the hit movies Onmyoji in 2001 and Onmyoji 2 in 2003.
In June 2004 she married Shogo, lead vocalist of 175R in a shotgun wedding, and their son, Raimu, was born on October 18, 2004 weighing 3492g. On November 25 2004, Eriko released her Single Collection ~Stairway~ to mark her new life journey as a mother and wife and as a gift for all Eriko fans around the world.
On 9th June 2005, Eriko announced on her new website that she will return to the music industry as 'elly'. She will try to compose and write her own songs as well. 22nd September 2005 marks Eriko's 22nd Birthday and her new start as 'elly' when she performed her 'elly live~Rebirth' concert. She also released a single that was exclusively sold over in her concert. On 18th Oct 2005, elly releases her 1st photo-essay book which marks her 22 years of life. She held a autograph session over at Shibuya HMV on Nov 6th.
