Information

Heisei Fuuzoku is Shiina Ringo's fourth studio album, after a three year period of releasing music with her band Tokyo Jihen, and is the image album for the movie Sakuran (starring Tsuchiya Anna as an Oiran). The album is available in two versions, a limited edition version (including and a special cross-shaped digipak, three stickers and a coaster) and a regular version. Saito Neko (a violinist who has worked with Shiina Ringo on numerous occasions, such as in Baishou Ecstasy, la salle de bain and Dai Ikkai Ringohan Taikai no Moyou) is listed as a contributor in the album. The album debuted at the number one position on the Oricon charts. Karisome Otome is the theme song of Sakuran, and a download only Jazz version was released in November 2006 to promote the film. The ending theme song of the film is Kono Yo no Kagiri, which was released as the album's only single. This album is made up of three types of songs: self-covers of Shiina songs from either her solo work or Tokyo Jihen, original songs (of which there are four) and covers of other artists' songs. Papaya Mango is a cover of Rosemary Clooney's 1956 hit Mangos, and Oiran is a song composed by Tokyo Jihen's guitarist Ukigumo for the album. Heisei Fuuzoku sold a total of 174,824 copies, making it the #70 album of 2007.

Similarities with Other Shiina Ringo Releases

The versions of Kuki, Ishiki, Meisai and Poltergeist featured in this album are studio recordings of orchestral arrangement from Shiina Ringo's Baishou Ecstasy tour. Yokushitsu combines the orchestral and rock versions of La Salle de Bain from the Ringo no Uta single and Yokushitsu from Shiina Ringo's second studio album Shouso Strip. The lyrics featured are that of Yokushitsu and are in Japanese, except for the last verse in which she uses an English verse from La Salle de Bain. Yume no Ato is the orchestral arrangement of the same song from Tokyo Jihen's Kyouiku album used in some of the trailers for Sakuran.

The version of Karisome Otome featured in this album is different from the previous released ones. The lyrics are in English and it uses an orchestral arrangement same to that in the HITOKUCHIZAKA version on the Kono Yo no Kagiri single. In addition, the version of Sakuran on the album has a jazzier arrangement in addition to slightly different lyrics.
