capsule (カプセル) is an electronic duo on the contemode label, a label started by the band's producer Nakata Yasutaka. They made their major debut in 2001 with Yamaha Music. Their music has included elements of all sorts of styles, including French pop, bossa nova, lounge house, and synth-pop.

Information

capsule formed in November 1997 after Nakata and Koshijima met at the TEENS'MUSIC FESTIVAL Hokuriku area convention. Their first single was "Sakura" in March 2001 on Yamaha Music. Their first album is significantly different from any of their later works in that it doesn't involve near as much synth or contain a futuristic/electronic sound.

In 2003, Nakata created his own label contemode and has produced other artists on the label, including Nagisa Cosmetic and copter4016882. He also has produced girl-pop trio Perfume since 2003. In 2004 he worked with Momose Yoshiyuki of Studio Kajino (a subsidiary of Studio Ghibli) to create the short animated film "Portable Kuukou". It became a trilogy of "short short films" including three of capsule's songs: "Portable Kuukou", "space station NO.9" and "Soratobu Toshikeikaku" (in that order). The first one was shown in theaters before the live-action version of "Cutie Honey".

The group went on a temporary hiatus[1] in summer 2007 as Koshijima had left Tokyo, and Nakata took a break to "recharge his inspiration for better songs in the future".[2] In September, the duo began been performing at clubs again and their first remix album was released the following month.

capsule's tenth album, released in December 2007, displayed a relatively new sound for the duo consisting of their familiar electronic genre and adding 1980s music.
