Nakagawa Ayumi was born Mihara Ayumi.[1] At the age of four, she started playing guitar, and at nine, performing street lives.[2] In 2003, Mihara's parents divorced, which led to her living with her mother's parents and changing her surname to Nakagawa.[1] Nowadays, Nakagawa performs a street live every week at Yokosuka-Chuo Station in her hometown of Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.

On May 5, 2010, Nakagawa released her debut single, "Jijitsu ~12sai de Watashi ga Kimeta Koto~", under avex trax. The title track is autobiographical about her struggles with her parents' divorce. The short version of the PV has been viewed over 395,000 times since it was posted on her YouTube channel on Febuary 11, 2010,[3] and the lyrics ranked #1 for the number of accesses on the lyric websites Uta-Net and UtaTen.[4]
