Ballad '77~'82 is the seventh best album released by Southern All Stars, and their first one re-issued in CD format hence not going out-of-print. Originally, it was only released in cassette format. Although the band debuted in 1978, the title is Ballad '77~'82 as the album includes songs composed/recorded prior their debut. The album reached #1 on Oricon charts, and sold around 399,000 copies in 1983, becoming the #13 album of the year (#1 cassette release). The 1985 reissue reached #73 on Oricon charts, and charted for 3 weeks. The 1998 reissue reached #44 on Oricon charts, and charted for 36 weeks.
