Trivia

  • After director Fukasaku Kinji's death during filming, the production continued with his son Fukasaku Kenta as the new director.
  • The name of the terrorist group, "Wild Seven", is Nanahara's nickname in the original novel. It is also the name of the brand of cigarettes that Kawada smokes in the novel, a nameplay of "Mild Seven".
  • Quentin Tarantino was offered a role but couldn't do it because of scheduling. He said, "They wanted me to play the President of the United States."
  • "Jacta Alea Est", Wild Seven's slogan, is Latin for "The Dice is Cast".
  • Much of the cast was made up of former, current (and future) Super Sentai and Kamen Rider alumni.
  • The assault rifles used by the Battle Royale students are commonly wrongly identified as the FAMAS "Type 03" rifles; some have attached M203 grenade launchers, it is actually a heavily modified Heckler & Koch G36. Nanahara Shuya uses an AK-47.
  • In one scene, Shuya is seen with a photo of his entire class, an orange headband and a knife. They are all references to the previous film, with the headband once belonging to Kawada Shogo and the knife belonging to Nakagawa Noriko / Kuninobu Yoshitoki.
  • The release date for the film in Japan was moved due to Nevada-tan.
  • Maeda Aki (Noriko from Battle Royale) is sister to Maeda Ai (who plays Kitano Shiori in Battle Royale II). Aki is the younger of the two in real life but the oldest in the movie world.
  • In the Battle Royale that Nanahara Shuya took part in, he and Nakagawa Noriko were Boy and Girl #15 and the only survivors of the game. In Battle Royale II the first two students to die are Boy and Girl #15.
  • The actor who plays Nanahara Shuya's father in the first movie (Taniguchi Takashi) is the leader of the Anti-Terrorist Attack Team in this film.

Music

The sequel's soundtrack has more original work by Amano Masamichi and fewer classical pieces. One of them, Farewell to the Piano (composed by Beethoven), is played by Kitano Shiori herself during the film.

The song from the opening credits is Dies Irae, taken from the Verdi Requiem.

The end title song is by Japanese punk band Stance Punks. The song "Mayonaka Shounen Totsugeki Dan" features on their first full length, self-titled album.
