Nao co-founded the band MAXIMUM THE HORMONE with fellow bandmate and frontman Tsuda Daisuke in 1998. She is one of the two members remaining from the original band lineup, the second being Tsuda. Nao is the oldest member in the group along with being the only female member. She recruited her younger brother and current band guitarist Kawakita Ryo, after former guitarist SUGI left the band in 1999. Nao, while primarily being a drummer throughout the band's activity, became an more instrumental part due to the inclusion of her vocals in the band's songs, beginning with the album Kusoban. While her drumming style remained heavy along with the band's sound, her vocals were more pop-oriented. Nao's vocals greatly contrast from the vocal delivery of frontman Tsuda, allowing for a blending of both metal and pop-punk, helping to creating the band's distinct sound.

Nao helped host MAXIMUM THE HORMONE's weekly radio show on bayfm78 Japan with fellow co-founder Tsuda Daisuke until its finish on March 26, 2009.

Nao, along with Tsuda, normally wears glasses, but is not seen wearing them during PVs or live performances.

Nao, as was her brother Ryo, was married, announced by her on December 18, 2008. In her words, she described her husband as a former bassist of a band called REMIND who now works as a pizza chef.
