Information
The band originally formed as THPLAY after the members graduated from their Osaka high school in 2000. The band soon began performing and gained recognition on the Osaka nightclub circuit. In 2005, the band signed with an indie record label and released their debut mini-album, HAPPY END. After the release, the band ended up changing their name to SPLAY and soon after signed with major label Pony Canyon.
In 2006, the band made their major label debut. Their debut single, "Ring your bell" was used as Ongaku Senshi MUSIC FIGHTER theme song for June 2006. Their next single, "Drawing days", garnered evern more attention. The song was used as the first opening theme song to the Weekly Shounen Jump-based anime Katekyo Hitman REBORN!. The song was quite successful for the band; it reached #62 on the Oricon chart, and became a power play song on many radio stations such as NACK5.
2007 started out with the release of the band's first studio album, FAREWELL MORNING LIGHT. The band's singer/guitarist/lyricist said that the album's title comes from the fact that they started recording the album at night and by the time they were complete it was morning. A few months later the band released their third single, "Echo again", which was used as the third ending theme song to Katekyo Hitman REBORN!. The band also lent the song "Sakura addition" which is from their indie period to the series, and it was covered by two of the series seiyuu. The covered song was then used as the fifth ending theme song to the series, and became a big it with fans, becoming on the best selling seiyuu singles of the year.
A year after their debut major label album, the band released their second studio album, AFTER THE MELODY ENDS. After a series of one man lives the band recorded the live album, Live DRAWING DAYS. They later announced at a 2008.09.06 show that they would disband by the end of the year.
