Starbow

Starbow (スターボー) or Uchuu Sanjyuushi Starbow (宇宙三銃士スターボー) was a three member idol group from 1982 to 1984.

Information

Getting their name from Hosono Haruomi, the group wanted their name to mean "star's rainbow" . The debuted in 1982 with the single Heart Break Taiyou Zoku as three warriors who escaped from the 10th planet Starbow to Earth to tell about love. The members were given the named Nagai, Imato, and Yaeto as their names because they were portrayed in the single as guys and dressed up and sounded like them. Their producer wanted them to take on a Yellow Magic Orchestra mixed with new wave and techno pop sound for their music.

Although there was so much planning for the single, Heart Break Taiyou Zoku was a commerical failure, only selling 7,000 copies. This caused the group to changed their image and sound to that like Candies. With their second single, Tanpopo Hatake de Tsukamaete, the group changed their names to Nami, Nagi, and Megu and changed their style with frilly clothing and displaying a Matsuda Seiko haircut.

After their third single in 1984, the group broke up.
