STEEL & SILK is the fourth studio album recorded by Mazda Julia. This is Mazda's first studio album in over two years since 1996's Julia III. It is also Mazda's first record and only album released under avex trax's cutting edge sub-label, since leaving her longtime label Warner Music Japan (1993-1997). With this record she began to move away from her idol image into a more of singer-songwriter direction, with the bulk of the recorded being self written and composed. However much like her previous records it was produced by Tsukimitsu Keisuke. This is her last album that Tsukimitsu produced for her. The album reached #82 on the weekly Oricon charts and charted for one week.
