Tachibana Risa began to have dreams in becoming a professional musician since she was taking vocal lessons when she was very small. Her dream came true when she won the grand prix in 1986 for the 1st Annual Lotte CM "Idol wa Kimi da!", where she received a contract for the label Toshiba EMI.

She debuted as a singer on April 1987 with the single "Kimon". Her third single, "Kimi wa Dontokunai", was a major hit that it earned Tachibana awards like the Rookie of the Year award at the 29th Japan Record Awards. After winning the award, she kept on releasing hit singles, including the single "Risa no Yousei Densetsu", which promoted Risa as a game character. However, after the release of that single, her record company had some troubles with Tachibana and was forced to changed agencies on her. Starting with the release of her ninth single, "DO YOU DO YOU?", she released her future singles on Bandai Music Entertainment. And then in 1993, she changed record labels once more and moved to Tokuma Japan Communications.

After the release of thr single "Saigo no Shower ni Hanataba", Tachibana decided to take a break from singing and began to pursue an acting career. However, she released two more singles later on in the 2000s, including the Tsunku produced and written single "Gomen ne Katte ni Kimechatte".

Currently, she is pursuing a stage acting career, In 2000, she got married and had a son four years later.
