vistlip is a five member Japanese rock band in the visual-kei scene. They formed in summer 2007 and started activities in 2008; they are currently an indies band signed with the label Marvelous AQL. The band's name is a portmanteau of the words "vister" and "lipper", which are also the words they give the editions of their releases (vister for CD+DVD and lipper for CD only).

On July 30th, 2010 it was reported that on the way back from a live at Kanazawa, the vehicle which the band members were in (including three more passengers) crashed into the wall of Nagae tunnel. vistlip's manager sustained fatal injuries, while all of the other passenegers had various neck and arm injuries. The car accident resulted in a hiatus. In February of 2011 it was announced that the group would restart activities in March.

Biography

2007-2008

vistlip was formed July 7th, 2007 with the line-up of: Tomo on vocals, Yuh on guitar, Umi on guitar, Rui on bass, and Tohya on drums. Tomo, Yuh, and Rui are ex-Jessica members, while Umi is ex-Replia and Tohya is ex-RAVE!!. They soon signed up with independent label Delfi Sound, a subsidary of Marvelous Entertainment Inc.. From here to 2008 vistlip was busy writting songs and recording, as there was no activity until 2008.

Their official activity began with their first live on March 17 at Shibuya O-WEST. The live was an S'CUBE sponsored event, which the band participted in. Before their first release vistlip partook in two band sponsored events at Takadanobaba AREA. On March 22nd they played in CELLT's event "C no Gekijou -Sono San-" and on April 11th they played in Rosario's event "New Found Story".

On April 23rd they released their debut mini-album REVOLVER. It features their first PV, which was for their song "EDY". To celebrate the mini-album Delfi Sound sponored a release event on April 30th at Shibuya BOXX. Spanning May 8th to July 27th the band took part in seven events organised by other bands. On August 4th they, along with many other bands, performed in the SCUBER DIVE organised super-event "Shibuya ga Taihen" at Shibuya O-Crest.

Before the last band sponsored event, they were one of the bands on the The Psychedelic Youths tour. It started on July 26th at Saitama Shintoshin VJ-3 and ended on August 25th at Omotesando FAB, hitting three stops. The last activity in August was their opening act performances for CELLT's one-man concert tour Kaettekita Ultra C. The tour started at Nagoya ell.SIZE on the 27th and ended at Shibuya BOXX on the 30th, also hitting three stops.

On September 3rd vistlip released their debut single "Sara". This was the first entry in a three consecutive month single release plan. All three of these singles' title songs were used as ending theme songs for the TV show Chou Saisentan Entertainment Jouhou Bangumi TOKYO Brake Suru~!. The single reached #178 on the Oricon charts, where it charted for a week.

The band only did three things at Takadanobaba AREA before the next entry. The first two were performances in events sposnored by labels, the first was SOUND ONLY MUSIC's Tokyo Shitei "T" project "AREA:24" on September 23rd and the second was the 77th part of PS COMPANY's "Chichuu Roukaku" events on September 27th. The last was just a regular live on October 5th.

The second entry in the release plan was their second single "alo[n]e", released on October 8th. It reached #117 on the Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. The rest of October was filled with four lives, spanning from the 12th (at Takadanoaba AREA) to the 23rd (also at Takadanobaba AREA). On October 15th vistlip contributed a new song, "Gizen MASTER", for the compilation album Shock Edge 2008. They were one of 13 bands to contribute songs.

"drop note.", their third single and the last entry in the release plan, was released on November 5th. This reached #123 on the Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. The rest of the year was only four events, stretching from November 12th to December 31st. The last of them was the "stylish wave COUNTDOWN'08-'09" event organised by ESP Entertainment Group at Yokohama Akarenga Souko 1-goukan 3F Hall. Also in December was the release of their digital single "Dead Cherry" through dwango.jp on the 17th. The song would later be put on their debut album.

2009

The new year began with three events over three months, one in each. The first event was the 87th volume of PS COMPANY's "Chichuu Roukaku" events on January 31st at Takadanobaba AREA. The second was one of Nagoya E.L.L & SPEED DISK organised "Shinrabanshow in MID SIDE 6 days" events on February 25th Nagoya E.L.L. The third and last one was Jishuban Club's "NEVER MIND Over The Year" event on March 5th at Shinjuku LOFT.

Starting on March 14th vistlip took part in the stylish wave CIRCUIT '09 Haru no Arashi tour. It began at SUNPHONIX HALL in YOKOHAMA AREA and concluded on March 24th at Kashiwa Drasta Stadium, hitting four stops. March ended with CELLT's event "C no Gekijou -Sono Shichi-" on the 26th at Shibuya O-WEST. PATRIOT, vistlip's second mini-album, was released on April 3rd. It reached #96 on the Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. Two months later they were one of the bands on D=OUT's organised tour Shin Tsuyu no Musha Shugyou TOUR. It began on June 12th at Nagoya E.L.L and concluded on June 23rd at Shibuya O-WEST, hitting five stops.

From June 2nd to the 5th the band was a live guest at the "Japan Expo 2009" event in Paris, France. This was their first overseas performance. They made it back to Japan for their one year anniversary and first one-man concert live "VRGNL RIOT" on July 7th at Shibuya O-WEST.

vistlip was one of the bands participating in the stylish wave MAX '09 tour during the summer. The tour stretched from July 11th at Takadanobaba AREA to August 16th at Kawasaki CLUB CITTA', altogther hitting 19 stops. During the tour, on August 5th, the band released their fourth single "-OZONE-". The titular song was used as an ending theme song for the TX anime YU-GI-OH! 5D's, replacing Alice Nine's song "CROSS GAME". This reached #42 on the Oricon charts, where it charted for three weeks.

The years' remaining lives spanned from Takadanobaba AREA on August 30th to Nagoya E.L.L on December 9th, being 15 performances altogther. A special mention on those live would be vistlips second overseas performance on October 18th at Kulttuuriareena Gloria in Helsinki, Finland as a part of Tsukicon. They also had a Q&A and an autograph session the day before.

For releases, vistlip released their debut album THEATER on December 9th. They also released their first DVD BUG, which was released on December 23rd. The DVD included all PVs release so far, along with ten select performances from their first one-man concert live "VRGNL RIOT".
