Information

Distance is the second album released by Utada Hikaru. Distance reached #1 on the Oricon Albums chart at the time of its release, with the highest first-week sales of any other album in the chart's history (3.02 million units) and charted for 45 weeks. This album became the #1 album of 2001, according to Oricon charts, and caused a major media and industry controversy by being released the same week as Hamasaki Ayumi's first greatest hits collection, A BEST.

The vinyl edition released four months later after the album, and did not contain any extra bonus material. The cover art is slightly different, with the standard Distance art backed by black and the colours having been altered.

The song Parody was released as a radio single prior to the release of the album. The song Distance was later re-arranged into the song FINAL DISTANCE (and featured on that single).

The most recent figures (May 26, 2006) show that this album sold more than 4,472,343 units in total.
