Krystal Jung was born on October 2, 1994 in San Francisco, California, United States of America. She was discovered in 2000 while shopping at a Lotte Department Store and was recruited as an SM Entertainment trainee in the "2006 SM Casting System". Jung began modeling in several CF's by age 13, and appeared in SHINee's MV "Juliette" as the main female protagonist. She debuted as the main vocalist in the girl group f(x) in 2009, and gained early interest amongst netizens due to being the younger sister of Jessica, whom previously debuted as a main vocalist for Girls' Generation in 2007. In 2010, Jung completed her middle school education at Korea Kent Foreign School and transferred to Hallym Entertainment Arts High School. After f(x)'s first mini-album NU ABO was released, she debuted as a solo singer with the release of her first digital single "Melody Project Part 2" on May 28, 2010.
