"Taiyou no Uta" is gravure idol/actress Sawajiri Erika's debut into the music world. As Amane Kaoru in the drama, Taiyou no Uta, she played a teenage girl with xeroderma pigmentosum that pursued her dreams in music. This single was released to promote the drama, and Sawajiri released it under her character's name. "Taiyou no Uta" reached #1 on the Oricon charts and charted for 24 weeks. Because it sold 480,183 copies in 2006, it became #10 best-selling single of the year and the #1 top selling single by a solo female artist. This single has been certified double platinum by RIAJ. In all, the single sold 488,604 copies.
