Abe Mao began to play piano when she was in third grade. After high school she picked up guitar, and started playing in different locals. In the summer of her second year of high school, she participated in YAMAHA TEEN'S MUSIC FESTIVAL 2006 and won. The same year she participated in the national convention and was awarded an encouragement prize. After she graduated from high school in 2008, she moved to Tokyo and made her debut under Pony Canyon with the album Free.
