In early 2005, a 16 year old Kaori gained her first introduction to the recorded music industry as a member of 6 piece ensemble Harajyuku BJ Girls. The group recorded 3 albums covering well known pop classics. In 2007 the group changed their name to CHIX CHICKS. Two mini-albums and a remix album followed prior to Kaori's departure from the group.

Later in 2005, Kaori's ability as a vocalist caught the attention of Yuki Kajiura. Kaori contributed to Yuki's "Tsubasa Chronicle" soundtracks, credited as 'FictionJunction KAORI'. In the second half of 2006, Kaori began her association with Sound Horizon. Her vocal skills were featured on Sound Horizon's fifth album "Roman". March 2007 saw the release of Kaori's first single "Brilliant World", the theme song for video game "Luminous Arc". Yuki Kajiura then wrote and produced the song "Calling", ending theme for anime series "Baccano!", which was released in August 2007 as Kaori's second single.

From 2008 onward, while maintaing her work with Sound Horizon, Kaori has become increasingly involved with Yuki Kajiura's FictionJunction project. In April 2008, FictionJunction and Sound Horizon collaborated for a joint concert under the name "Dream Port". Kaori has become one of FictionJunction's four main vocalists and has contibuted to several of Yuki Kajiura's other works. She performs in concert regularly for both Sound Horizon and FictionJunction. Her first solo concert performance was staged at NOMAD (Daikanyama, Tokyo) on 23rd December 2010.

Following her graduation from higher education in March 2011, she then continued to work with Kajiura Yuki for the soundtrack of Rekishi Hiwa Historia Season 3 wherein she had her very first "Kajiurago" recording. Following this involvement is also her participation in Kajiura's FICTION II where she, together with other FictionJunction vocalists and other utahime's of Kajiura performed and recorded the songs featured in the album. Following the release of the album is the promotional concert of Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#7 "FICTION" where she and her fellow FictionJunction vocalists performed. Later in June 2011, she announced her involvement in the mini album CROSS PEACE of Ouzoku BAND where she sang two songs, Sayonara no Kawari ni and Flowers in Paradise. Later in October 2011, she also announced her involvement with her fellow Sound Horizon vocalist, Shimotsuki Haruka's doujin album Kaso Shoujo ~Lip-Aura~ Gensou Kakkyoku Shuu. She also attended and performed in Sound Horizon's 2011 LIVE Tour “The Great Hope of the Territorial Revival”.

From 2012 onwards, she continued to perform in Yuki Kajiura lives. She also announced her involvement with the PSP game AMNESIA LATER where she sang the Opening Theme and Ending Theme songs. This followed with her involvement with the theme song of the game's Drama CD. She also announced her involvement with the PSP game L.G.S Shinsetsu Houshin Engi where she will sing two songs. Due to her involvement with Ouzoku BAND, another group was formed which now lists her as a member, the rock band Another Union.

The year 2013 marked the release of her first solo album PLACE. This album included her songs dating back from her first single "Brilliant World" until the latest songs from the compilations albums.
