Sakae Maiko

Sakae Maiko (栄舞子) is Japanese pop/rock singer/songwriter/bassist. Maiko made her music debut back in 1999 with the Japanese pop group ZONE, and became the band's bassist. After a string of hits the group disbanded in 2005. In 2006 Maiko re-emerged as singer and bass player of the six-piece Japanese pop/rock band MARIA.

Information

As a child Maiko was enrolled in the performing arts school Studio RunTime. When auditions were held in 1997 for a new music and dance group Maiko was one of the eight students selected for further training. In 1998 the group of eight became a group of five: Maiko, Mizuho, Takayo, Miyu and Tomoka.

In 1999, after discussions between Studio Runtime and Sony, this group was further reduced to four members and acquired the name ZONE. In december of that year they released an indie single "believe in love". After being formally signed to Sony in 2000, the girls were taught to play instruments, and made their major label debut in 2001 with the single, "GOOD DAYS". Maiko became the bass player for ZONE and often provided support vocals. ZONE released 16 singles and three studio albums before disbanding in April 2005. During this period Maiko sang two solo tracks. The songs "Sae Zuri" (Bird Chirping) and "Like".

In 2005, Maiko had a short association with the Studio RunTime group BON'Z and then later joined six piece all girl band MARIA. The group signed to Sony and released six singles and two studio albums before disbanding in 2010. Later that year Maiko teamed up with two other musicians to form a band called Jack&Queen. This was an unsigned band working the local club circuit in Hokkaido. In febuary 2014 the they announced their intention to disband after a final concert in April.
