ROMANS was formed in August of 2003. The group was based on the [[Hello! Project]] TV show ''[[index.php?title=Sexy Onna Jyuku&action=edit|Sexy Onna Jyuku]]'' and had a sexy, more mature theme. Its members were [[Yaguchi Mari]] and [[Ishikawa Rika]] from [[Morning Musume]], [[Kimura Ayaka]] from [[Coconuts Musume]], [[Satoda Mai]] from [[Country Musume]], and [[Saito Hitomi]] from [[Melon Kinenbi]]. 18-year-old Rika was the group's youngest member.

ROMANS was an R&B-influenced group and had singing and rapping sections, much like [[7AIR]]. The singers of the group were Mari, Rika, and Mai, and the rappers were Ayaka and Hitomi.
