April (Korean group)

April promoting "Hello Summer" (2020)

April (에이프릴) was a 6 member Korean pop girl group formed by DSP Media and debuted in August 2015. They were informally known as "DSP Girls" before their debut. Their group name means "girls you can't help but love", with the "A" representing being the best and the "Pril" referring to a lovable woman. Video teasers introducing the members began being released on July 20, 2015. They officially disbanded on January 28, 2022.


Former Members


April (2015)

Pre-Debut: PURETTY and KARA Project

From 2012 to 2014, former member So Min was a member of the now-defunct girl group effort, PURETTY. The group debuted in Japan and disbanded in 2014 with plans to reform into other groups. In mid-2014, So Min and Chae Won became finalists in KARA Project, in which seven trainees competed to become the new members of label mates girl group, KARA. They finished in second and fourth place respectively.

2015: Debut, So Min's Departure, & First Singles

On February 9th, DSP media announced that they would be debuting a girl group that will be the next generation of Fin.K.L and KARA. In July, they announced the members of April through a series of teasers along with the group's logo and mascot, which was chosen through an open logo contest. In early August, DSP confirmed that April would debut on August 24th with the mini-album Dreaming. On that same day the group released the music video for their debut album's title track, "Kkumsatang".

On November 9, DSP Media has announced that after long discussions, leader So Min has made the decision to leave the group to further pursue her studies. On the same day it was also announced that the group would make a comeback in November as a 5-member group.

From November 14th through the 23rd, DSP released a series of promotional teasers for the single album, and on the 25th the MV of the lead track "Muah!" was posted on their official YouTube channel, as well as behind the scenes footage and an interview.

On December 10th, it was announced that the group would release a special winter single album titled "Snowman" on December 21st, and posted puzzle teaser images to the group's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Fan cafe. On December 31, a special choreography music video for "Snowman" was posted on the group's official YouTube channel.

2016: Spring, first concert Dream Land and line-up changes

On January 29, it was announced that the group was planning to hold their 1st fanmeetings in Japan on March 6 under the name "April JAPAN FANMEETING 2016 ~The First Fairy tale~" which would be presented by their label-mate and former KARA member, Young Ji. A mini-fanmeeting was also held in Seoul on February 27. On February 12th, DSP Media announced on April's official website that the group's fan club will be called Fineapple. On February 18th, April won the Girl Group Rookie of the Year award at the "22nd Korean Entertainment Arts Awards".

April promoting Spring (2016)

On April 4th, DSP Media announced through a teaser poster that the group will make a comeback in late April. The group's second mini album Spring was released on April 27, 2016. The album contains six tracks, including the lead single, "Tinkerbell".

On August 21, April Celebrated their 1st Year Anniversary through Their 1st Ever Solo Concert entitled DREAMLAND. The Concert Tickets was sold out in one minute after release. Member Hyun Joo was unable to attend due to her hiatus. It was reported that Hyunjoo did attend the concert to watch and support the girls. April held another solo concert in October in Japan.

Hyun Joo officially departed from the group on October 29, 2016 to pursue her acting career. On November 10th, it was revealed that former PURETTY, KARA PROJECT, and Produce 101 member Chae Kyung would be joining the group. On November 24th, it was announced that trainee Rachel would be joining the group as well as its sixth member.
