ICONIQ was born as Ito Ayumi to Zainichi Korean parents on August 25, 1984 in Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Discovered at a H.O.T concert, she entered the Korean pop music industry as Ah Yoo Mee, her Hangul based name, and debuted as the leader and lead vocalist for Sugar in 2002.

Though ethnically Korean Ahyoomee was born and raised in Japan. Her name, which was commonly believed to be Japanese in origin, is actually Hanja based (Ah meaning "Asia", Yoo meaning "Freedom" and Mi meaning "Beauty). Being fluent in Japanese did give her an advantage in her career in Japan with Sugar, but Ahyoomee's Korean did spark some criticism early in her career.
In 2006, Sugar was on hiatus when Itou released her hit debut solo digital single "Cutie Honey" on July 13, 2006. Ito then released "Wrongful Meeting" in November and covered "Yuki no Hana", a Nakashima Mika song as a special treat on New Year's Eve. However, it was announced on December 20 that Sugar had disbanded. Shortly after, Itou switched to the SM Entertainment record label as "Ah Yoo Mee" on February 14, 2007. However, her time with SM Entertainment was short lived.

Sugar
After her minimal participation in the 2007 SUMMER SM TOWN album, where she recorded one phrase in two songs, Itou left South Korea for Japan in 2008 and signed with avex Entertainment. She began acting as Ito Yumi and debuted with a minor role in the drama Binbo Danshi. In January 2009, Itou had her first main role in the film Yakusoku no Chi, acquired a minor role in the film Kafu wo Machiwabite and starred in one episode of an avex trax short drama series called Otome, as well as a secondary role in the drama Yottsu no Uso.

Ahyoomee started her musical career with the now defunct girl pop group Sugar in 2002. According to Ahyoomee, she was discovered at a H.O.T. concert which lead to her joining the girl group. Though in the beginning she was criticized of her Japanese accent. Yet Ahyoomee won over fans with her bubbly personality and cute looks during interviews, appearances, and performances for Sugar. Fans of the girl group dubbed Ahyoomee the "Cute One" for her personality and looks, garnering her to be a favorite among fans.
In November 2009, Itou officially became a part of the rhythm zone label under the name ICONIQ. She made her debut in Japan on December 9, 2009, with the song "I'm lovin you", as ICONIQ x EXILE ATSUSHI, only available in Chaku-Uta. The song was used for a Shisheido commercial, starring Ueno Juri.

Solo
In January 2010, also as a Chaku-Uta download only, she released a second song "Change Myself", this time with a music video produced for the song. At the end of January, 2010, she was chosen by Shiseido as her new face to promote Shiseido's Maquillage range. In March 2010, she released her first full album titled as her second Japanese song CHANGE MYSELF.

During early 2006, Sugar was put on hiatus as Ahyoomee concentrated on her solo career in South Korea. In July Ahyoomee released her first single titled Cutie Honey (a song recently covered by Japanese pop star Koda Kumi), which premiered on the Korean music show Inkigayo. Released as a digital single, Cutie Honey was a hit on the internet which garnered many performances from Ahyoomee that year. With the success of Cutie Honey Ahyoomee released her second single in November titled Wrongful Meeting, a cover of Kim Gun Mo's hit song from 1995. Other than her 2 digital singles Ahyoomee has covered Yuki no Hana, a Nakashima Mika song as a special treat on New Year's Eve. Then in early 2007 Ahyoomee switched to SM Entertainment. Currently Ahyoomee has contributed her voice to SM Entertainment's 2007 SUMMER SMTOWN and a song titled "Only Love" on the 2007 WINTER SMTOWN album.
She married her husband Kwon Kibum on October 30, 2022. The couple welcomed a daughter named SeAh in June 2024.

During Sugar, Ahyoomee slowly drifted into acting making appearances on Korean comedy shows like X-man then later on Love Letter, and Rainbow Romance. Though in 2007 Ahyoomee is rarely seen on television. Although it is rumored she is filming a Japanese drama to explain her absence from South Korea, more significant changes for Ahyoomee with her new record label is Ahyoomee's obvious weightloss; which has slimmed down her face and has gotten rid of her plump cheeks.

Information

ICONIQ was born as Ito Ayumi to Zainichi Korean parents on August 25, 1984 in Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Discovered at a H.O.T concert, she entered the Korean pop music industry as Ah Yoo Mee, her Hangul based name, and debuted as the leader and lead vocalist for Sugar in 2002.

She married her husband Kwon Kibum on October 30, 2022. The couple welcomed a daughter named SeAh in June 2024.
