ZOO was formed in 1989 with ten members as a dance unit. There first single, Careless Dance, was released in 1991 with moderate success. The single featured vocals by future TRF member YU-KI, who left the group after the single was released.

The group released two more hits till they found much success with their fourth single, Choo Choo TRAIN, that sold over a million copies. The group had moderate success after their hit single but broke up on Christmas Day 1995. After that, one member, HIRO, would form his own dance/pop group that was later named EXILE.
