Once upon a time in the pillows is the pillows's fifth best album as a 20th anniversary album. It features a new song, "1989" and new album mixes. All songs were written and composed by the bands lead singer and guitarist Yamanaka Sawao. It was released in two versions, a CD+DVD version and a CD only version and as the same day as their other best album Once upon a time in the pillows. The album reached #7 on Oricon charts, and charted for 7 weeks.
