Automatic was used as the ending theme song to the Fuji TV show "Warau Inu no Seikatsu -YARANEVA!!-". Though Automatic is usually seen as Utada's first single in the Japanese market, time will tell actually was. This is shown by Automatic being the second track of Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.1.

Hong Kong artist Kelly Chen sang a Mandarin cover of Automatic, entitled 'Qing Bu Zi Jin' (情不自禁, trans: Not Forbidding my Emotions), which was released on her 1999 album, Love Kelly. Only the Japanese was translated in Kelly Chen's version, and all the english is kept the same.
