Kuriyama Chiaki (2009)

Kuriyama Chiaki is a Japanese actress and model.

Profile

Information

Chiaki began her career as a young girl by modeling for magazines like Nicola, but because she did not get any taller after reaching a certain age turned to acting. Because of her sleek black hair and piercing, seemingly cold look, she often plays offbeat or insane characters in her works. (She has been called "Cool Beauty" as well.)

She made her acting debut in the movie Shikoku, but she began to get noticed for her role as a track star in the cult classic Battle Royale. Because of her performance in this movie, Quentin Tarantino cast her as the role of Gogo Yubari in his movie Kill Bill Vol.1. After this Chiaki was recognized worldwide as the 17-year-old Japanese schoolgirl with a passion for killing.

After these hit movies, Chiaki starred again in another hit movie, Kagen no Tsuki ~ Last Quarter, which was a live-action adaptation of Yazawa Ai's popular manga.

Chiaki has is come to be known as an actress representing Japan across the globe in many cases, such as becoming one of four spokeswomen for cosmetics company Shiseido's product "Maquillage". The other three actresses/models are Ito Misaki, Ebihara Yuri, and Shinohara Ryoko.

Trivia

  • When Chiaki was just thirteen, she released a fully nude photobook published by Shinchosa, photographed by Shinoyama Kishin. However, she had been only eleven at the time of photography. This is now out of print due to juvenile pornography laws and the company's own decision.
