Narita Elizabeth Sakura first made her debut into the music world in 1993 at the age of eighteen. She made her debut under the stage name LiSA, and was signed under Tokuma Japan Communications. After the release of four singles she was dropped from the label. LISA then started working as a part time vocalist for the group Ram Jam World.

In 1999, LISA rose to fame as the vocalist of the Japanese hip-hop group, m-flo, alongside VERBAL and Takahashi Taku. The group formed in 1999 and quickly entered the Oricon Top 10 with their debut single the tripod e.p. m-flo's popularity increased until LISA decided to leave in 2002 to pursue a solo career. LISA's m-flo fanbase, however, decreased after leaving the group. LISA has collaborated with many artists since leaving m-flo, such as Koda Kumi, Heartsdales, and JHETT aka YAKKO for AQUARIUS. Her style still remains R & B, but occasionally will drift more toward J-Pop.
