Information

Kabata was one of the 16 finalists of Morning Musume Member Tsuika Audition which aired on TV Tokyo's talent search show ASAYAN in 1998, but lost to Yaguchi Mari, Ichii Sayaka and Yasuda Kei. Rumors were going that she might be joining Melon Kinenbi or Country Musume instead, but nothing emerged from this.

In 2001, she participated in the Haisha Fukkatsu Oo Audition on the same talent show, and was offered four record deals (by Life Records, King Records, Victor Entertainment, and Triem). Kabata liked the original song "Namida" that Four Life had prepared for the subsequent demo tape recording, and she signed a contract with them.

Although it was scheduled for Kabata to have a solo debut, her record company changed their plans and she became the front vocalist of a unit instead (as the record company didn't want her to be seen as an idol). On August 22nd, she released the single Atarimae no Koto as CLOVER (Kabata Saki Unit) with band members eiri, Yoshida Junko and Baba Kazuyoshi. Despite little promotion, it entered the Oricon charts at #94.

After this, CLOVER (Kabata Saki Unit) started recording their second single. Recording of the coupling songs were finished, and as soon as the release date was decided it was planned to do jacket photography and PV shooting. However, the release was cancelled as their record company filed for bankruptcy. Kabata was transferred to For Life Music Entertainment, and the planned singles (three) and album (one) were also cancelled.

Kabata's new record company promoted her as a solo singer, rendering CLOVER (Kabata Saki Unit) as inactive, and she released the single Fish in December 2002.

After the release of the single, she worked as a voice actor, live performer, and she had her own internet show (Kabata Saki no PIPIT!!! REAL TV; 椛田早紀のPIPIT!!!REAL☆TV).

In 2004, Shimizu Kazuhiko, who had a great influence on her activities, died due to a traffic accident in January. In March, she released the song LONELY ROLLING STAR, used for the PS2 game "Katamaridamashi" (塊魂), but had zero activities in the first half of the year. She resumed her live performances in July (some with eiri from CLOVER (Kabata Saki)). Six months later, she was let go from her record company as her contract with them ended on January 27, 2005.

In February of 2005, Kabata became a member of MILK FUDGE who released their major debut single Navy Blue in August. They disbanded in December. In 2007, she became a member of the unit tokage.

She also has several unreleased songs under all her stage names. One of them, "Natsu no Mahou" (夏の魔法), had music by Shimizu Kazuhiko but was never released due to his sudden death. Kabata has sung it live numerous times.
