Kagrra was formed in October 1998 under the name CROW, along with a 'sister-band' named Lar~Mia. They were both attached to Key Party, and called themselves informally "black feathers" and "white feathers", respectively. However, by the first quarter of 1999, CROW left Key Party and signed with PS Company, changing their name to Kagrra in the process. Once they had their major debut in January 2004, PS Company retitled them to Kagrra, - adding the comma to their name.

Sometime in 1998, Isshi, Izumi and Nao came together to form a band, and put out advertisements to find guitarists. They were joined shortly afterward by Akiya and Shin, and CROW was born. In June 1999, they released a demotape entitled Hyakuyae. Not much information is available about their CROW days, unfortunately.

On December 20th, Kagrra performed at the Shibuya Kokaido, which was recorded for a DVD release in early 2005. During the second song, however, a malfunction with the pyrotechnics filled the hall with smoke and the band and audience were evacuated for approximately 40 minutes. How this will reflect on the DVD release remains to be seen.
