Letters was used as the NTT DoCoMo FOMA CM song. Letters, despite being the second track on a double a-side single, never had a promotional video to go with it. Utada herself said that it was because the DoCoMo ads featuring her and having Letters as the background music was the cause for this; that it compensated for not having a PV. This song was an effort between four major record labels, as several famous guitarists appeared on behalf of their record companies: Toshiba EMI, UNIVERSAL J, Sony Music Records and UNLIMITED RECORDS.

Utada Quotes

  • "To tell the truth, now this is my most favorite song. It's rare case that I love my own song objectively; it must be the first time for me. It was a little turning point in my life when I made this song; by writing the lyrics of Letters, I have been vitalized in writing lyrics since then. I've came to think, 'Do I want to write much better songs?' The greatest part of this song is, of course, the guitars. Many famous and skillful guitarists came together for me, so please listen to it. Guitars are included generously in this song." --Utada Hikaru
  • "...and 'Letters', this belongs to my new genre and I'm happy to name the genre 'Kouha Roman (die-hard romanticism)' (lol). The lyrics make me imagine something like that." --Utada Hikaru
  • "Letters is the coupling song for SAKURA Drops and actually I prefer this one. It's worth a *check* - it may sound a bit strange I myself say this, though." --Utada Hikaru
