Information

"Sakuranbo" is Otsuka Ai's second single and is credited with being her breakout hit. The song was also used as the opening theme on TBS's "UNDERCOUNTDOWN TV" and the ending theme for Fuji TV's "Mecha2 Iketeruu!". The single was released in both a CD+DVD and a CD Only edition. The CD+DVD edition (with a different cover) came with a DVD containing the music video for "Sakuranbo". The first press edition of the CD Only edition comes with a picture book, and was limited to 10,000 copies. On March 30, 2005, avex trax put out a limited edition re-issue with a picture book called "Sakuranbo -Encore Press-". This single, though not peaking very high on Oricon charts, had a long, drawn out buying period. It reached #5 on Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of 101 weeks. This placed it as the #12 single of 2004, selling 405,600 units in 2004. However, due it's huge popularity and the re-release of "Sakuranbo -Encore Press-", the single also reached 2005 end-of-year charts, with the single reaching #86 and selling 118,350 units for that year. This even beat her more recent single, "Neko ni Fuusen", in the charts. The most recent figures show that this single sold 527,674 units and that the 'Encore Press' has sold 61,283 units. This is currently Otsuka's best selling and best known single.

The single is Double Platine for the shipment of 500,000 copies, and "Sakuranbo" is certified also Million for the downloading of 1,000,000 units.
