Information

"Sakuranbo" is the second single recorded by Otsuka Ai, and it is noted as being her breakout hit single. It was released in both a CD+DVD and CD formats. The first press edition of the CD edition comes with a picture book, and was limited to 10,000 copies. The song was used as the opening theme to the TBS program UNDERCOUNTDOWN TV and the ending theme for Fuji TV's Mecha2 Iketeruu!.

On March 30th 2005, a limited edition re-issue with a picture book called "Sakuranbo -Encore Press-" was issued. Otsuka later recorded a self-cover of the song titled "Sakuranbo -Cocktail-" which was released as a digital download to celebrate her tenth anniversary in December 2013.

This single, though not peaking very high on Oricon charts, had a long and drawn out buying period. It reached #5 on the weekly Oricon chart, and continued to rank for a total of 101 weeks. Because it sold 405,600 copies in 2004, it became the #12 best single single of the year. It also ranked on the 2005 end of year charts, selling 118,350 copies making it #86 single of the year. The most recent figures show that this single sold 527,674 units and that the "Encore Press" has sold 61,283 units. "Sakuranbo" was certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for the shipment of 500,000 copies, and the song has been certified Million for over 1,000,000 downloads.
