Senbatsu (選抜; literally 'selection') is a term used by AKB48, SKE48, SDN48 and NMB48 to refer to the selected members in singles, events, performances, etc.

Information

The term Senbatsu did not become commonly used until the First Senbatsu Election, which chose the selected members for Iiwake Maybe, but the process of choosing specific members to perform the A-side of single releases has been in practice since Skirt, Hirari.

Senbatsu is almost always chosen by the management, but Iiwake Maybe, Heavy Rotation and Flying Get were chosen by an election, and Chance no Junban was chosen via a rock-paper-scissors tournament.
