A self-cover is when an artist rerecords a song that they have previously released. It can also refer to a song recorded by a singer-songwriter who originally wrote it for someone else. Self-covers often have new arrangements.
Examples of self-covers:
- Amuro Namie's second best album, LOVE ENHANCED♥ single collection, is comprised of new vocal recordings.
- misono recorded the song "gradually" on her first cover album misono Cover ALBUM, which was originally by her former band day after tomorrow.
- Nakajima Miyuki wrote the song "Sorafune" for TOKIO, who later recorded it herself on the album Lullaby SINGER.
- Takamizawa Toshihiko wrote the song "Kogarashi ni Dakarete" for Koizumi Kyoko, which was later recorded by his band THE ALFEE.
