Kusumi was the only member chosen in the Morning Musume Audition 2005. She debuted on the single Iroppoi Jirettai, was first featured on the Rainbow 7 album, and her first Morning Musume concert was Morning Musume Concert Tour 2005 Natsu Aki "Baribari Kyoushitsu ~Koharuchan Irasshai!~".
She joined the Hello! Project kickbase team Metro Rabbits H.P. and she currently lends her voice to the main character in the anime series Kirarin Revolution (きらりん☆レボリューション) that started April 7, 2006. She made her solo debut with her single Koi Kana, the opening theme of Kirarin Revolution.
