YOSHIMOTO MUSIC

YOSHIMOTO MUSIC CO.,LTD. (株式会社よしもとミュージック) is a Japanese record company and video software company located in Chuo, Osaka, Osaka and Shinjuku, Tokyo. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., Ltd.
History
Founded in 2001 as R & C Japan Co., Ltd. (株式会社アール・アンド・シー・ジャパン) with "by YOSHIMOTO" displayed at the bottom right of its logo, the English name later changed to R and C Ltd.
In 2002, Rojam Entertainment in Hong Kong, which was founded by Komuro Tetsuya, who belonged to Yoshimoto Kogyo at the time, acquired 80% of the shares from Yoshimoto America, Inc. (a US corporation of Yoshimoto Kogyo and a consolidated subsidiary). In 2004, Yoshimoto Kogyo and its consolidated subsidiaries Fandango and Faith jointly acquired Rojam through a takeover bid, becoming a real subsidiary of Yoshimoto Kogyo, with Rojam acquiring the remaining 20% of the company's shares, becoming an affiliate of Yoshimoto Kogyo through Rojam.
After that, Fandango acquired all the shares from Rojam in March 2007 due to the business reorganization of Yoshimoto Kogyo. The following April, Yoshimoto Kogyo acquired all the shares from Fandango and made it a wholly owned subsidiary. The company name was changed to YOSHIMOTO R and C Co., Ltd. (株式会社よしもとアール・アンド・シー) on October 1st of the same year. In 2009, Yoshimoto Kogyo and Faith sold 95% of their holdings to foreign investors, and Rojam no longer had a relationship with Komuro Tetsuya.
Since it was established as a subsidiary of Yoshimoto Kogyo, many of the artists who belong to the parent company belong to it. From the beginning of its establishment to September 2002, it had outsourced sales to Toshiba EMI (currently Universal Music LLC). After that, it was outsourced to Columbia Music Entertainment (currently Nippon Columbia) until they released their own products on March 16, 2016.
On May 15, 2007, Columbia Music Entertainment announced that the video works would be sold directly by R & C itself after June 2007. Their contract would continue for press manufacturing of video works, manufacturing of music products, and consignment of sales. Since CDM Partners, a Columbia press contractor, went bankrupt in 2009 due to a bankruptcy filing, no further contractors had been disclosed.
On July 1, 2007, the company joined the Recording Industry Association of Japan as a regular member. As a result, it became one of the major labels.
On January 29, 2016, Yoshimoto Kogyo announced that it would outsource all sales and distribution operations to Sony Music Marketing.
On March 1, 2016, YOSHIMOTO R & C Co., Ltd. was merged into Yoshimoto Creative Agency Co., Ltd. (currently Yoshimoto Kogyo) and dissolved. On the same day, a new corporation with the same name (YOSHIMOTO R & C Co., Ltd.) was established.
The company name was changed to YOSHIMOTO MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT Co., Ltd. on October 1, 2017.
On April 1, 2019, the outsourcer for sales and distribution operations was changed to Sony Music Solutions.
In April 2019, the company name was changed to YOSHIMOTO MUSIC CO., LTD.
From October 1, 2021, the sales consignment was transferred from Sony Music Solutions to Universal Music GK.
