"Sakuragumi" means "Cherry Blossom Group." To reflect the image of cherry blossoms, Sakuragumi's songs were slow ballads. They were the more successful of the two groups.

Morning Musume Sakuragumi, February 2004

Morning Musume Sakuragumi or Morning Musume Sakura Gumi (モーニング娘。さくら組) was one of two splinter groups Morning Musume was split into in 2003.

History

Morning Musume Sakuragumi was formed in 2003 with eight members of Morning Musume's line-up of fifteen. The other eight members were Morning Musume Otomegumi. The reason for the split was so the two groups could perform in smaller tour venues. In addition, both groups released two singles that showed their image. Sakuragumi showed the image of cherry blossoms, where the members sang slow and calm songs.

Both groups became inactive after 2004. Sakuragumi (without Kago Ai or Konno Asami) reunited during Hello! Project's 2007 Winter concert and performed "Hare Ame Nochi Suki♥". The group had another reunion (still without Kago) during Hello! Project's 2009 Winter concert and performed the same song.
