Information

Horikawa started to play the piano at age 5 as her father was a musician. Horikawa got her start in the world of show business after she was scouted at a bar she worked at her hometown in Okinawa. In 1978, she moved to Tokyo in hopes to start a music career. However, she first became a model after winning the 4th Annual Clarion Girl contest. But, before the year was up, Horikawa released her first single, Matsutouya Masataka produced single entitled "Daddy".

In 1982, she was announced to play the leading role of Takechi Tetsuji's film Oiran. But, before filming began, Horikawa pulled out from the film last minute as she didn't feel comfortable in a nude scene. Movie and TV dorama companies didn't like Horikawa's actions and started to blacklist her from future doramas and films. This caused Horikawa to take a break from acting soon after the controversy.[1]

In 1985, Horikawa came back as a composer under the name "MAYUMI".
