Dream (group)
Dream is a Japanese pop group signed to the avex trax record label. In 1999 the avex label organized a huge talent contest, called "avex dream 2000", with the aim of finding the right girls for a new group. The result was dream, a three-piece group consisting of Matsumuro Mai, Tachibana Kana and Hasebe Yu.
Mai Matsumuro left dream in 2002 to pursue a solo career. The group re-debuted with 8 members in 2003 with new members Ai Risa, Abe Erie, Takamoto Aya, Nakashima Ami, Nishida Shizuka, and Yamamoto Sayaka. Roughly one year later, Ai Risa graduated and left the group.
Following Risa's departure, the group continued to release material as a 7-member group and was met with minor success. On June 27th, 2007, dream was "reborn" as the dance/chorus group DRM in an attempt to shed their image as idols.
On August 1, 2008, Hasebe Yu left DRM in pursuit of a solo career. The group changed its name to Dream and their official fanclub (Live Your Dreams) closed down. Also, the group changed management from Avex to LDH (Love Dream Happiness). They have also changed labels from avex trax to the avex sub-label Rhythm Republic The group released its first single as Dream and its first physical single since 2005's Soyokaze no Shirabe / Story on September 9, 2009.
Dream followed up the release of Perfect Girls / To The Top with a new single on March 1, 2010. The new single was titled Breakout and also featured their Toyota Wish Songs Project song, I Believe.
On May 12, 2010, Dream will release its 3rd single and first major label single under Rhythm Zone. The currently untitled single will come in both CD and CD+DVD formats.

Biography
The group debuted on January 1, 2000, with the single Movin' on, which made it into the Oricon top 15 with a mature image and non-cheesy eurobeats. Their next few singles all charted in similar territory, failing to break the top 10 until their sixth single, My Will, made it to #6 at the end of 2000. Ironically, the group's next single would be their worst-charting to date, peaking at #36.
Things were considered more or less over for the group when Matsumuro Mai, who wrote most of their lyrics, decided to leave in 2002. avex held more auditions for a replacement, but ended up with 6 new girls, which many saw as an attempt to emulate the success of top girl-group Morning Musume. The new 8-girl group "re-debuted" in 2003 with MUSIC IS MY THING. Roughly one year later, Ai Risa would leave to pursue a solo career, bringing the group's member count down to 7.
As a 7-member group, dream primarily released cover albums (covering songs by 3-member dream, and other avex artists), until the mini-album was settled on their standard medium for releasing new material. This latter trend would continue through June 2007, when the group again "re-debuted" -- this time as DRM, with a mini-album of the same name.
On August 1, 2008, Hasebe Yu left DRM in pursuit of a solo career. The group changed its name to Dream and their official fanclub (Live Your Dreams) closed down. Also, the group changed management from Avex to LDH (Love Dream Happiness)
The group released its first single as Dream and its first physical single since 2005's Soyokaze no Shirabe / Story on September 9, 2009. This new single was titled Perfect Girls / To The Top and was sold exclusively at a series of free shows Dream did throughout Japan as well as on mu-mo. Dream appeared on their first TV live on December 31, 2009 on CDTV Premium Live 2009>>2010, performing Perfect Girls. Tachibana Kana was unable to perform because she suffered from right spontaneous pneumothorax (Tachibana was diagnosed with left spontaneous pneumothorax at 16). Therefore, the CDTV live became Dream's first live performance as a five member unit.
On March 1, 2010, Dream released their second single as a six member group, titled Breakout, another mu-mo exclusive. Dream has also announced a 3-date live tour titled Dream Live Tour 2010. On May 12, 2010, Dream will release it's first major label debut as a 6 member unit under the Rhythm Zone label.
Since 2005, the girls' activities have seemed to involve as much sports as music. Their former group name is the namesake of TEAM dream, a futsal team often in competition with Gatas Brilhantes H.P., and DRM's full roster helps populate the team's ranks, with key members playing prominent positions.
